Signs are one of the most timeless ways to advertise for any business. Unlike the television or the radio, they cannot be changed by those who see them. People can simply flip the channel on a television or a radio if they do not want to hear the commercials. They cannot do the same thing with a sign. There are a few different things that you should keep in mind when trying to use signage in your favor, however, to make sure that you get all that you can out of your advertising efforts.
High Traffic Areas
The first thing to do is to look for high traffic areas for sign placement. You do not want to put them in a place where few people will see them. You have to think of the success rate in terms of a percentage. If ten percent of the people who see the advertisement are going to come into your store and make a purchase, you are much better off if one thousand people see it instead of just one hundred. The following are a few high traffic areas to consider.
1. The side of the road. If your store is located right on the main roadway, make sure that your signs are out by the shoulder. Do not make people work too hard to see them.
2. The middle of the hall. This works the best for stores located within a mall. If you can get the sign out into the middle of the hall so that people have to walk around it, they are bound to see it as they go by.
3. The city center. Most cities have a square in the middle with a park and sidewalks. This is where people will gather just to relax in the summer. If you can put signs in and around this area, you will advertise to people who have not even gone out to make a purchase.
Get To The Point
You also need to remember that the sign should not be too wordy. The faster you can get to the point, the better. Remember that the people will not be reading the words because they want to, but because you have caused them to notice them almost against their will. If it takes too long for your sign to say anything, they will stop reading.
Advertise Deals
Do not waste your time using all of your signage to advertise normal things. Saying that you sell televisions does not set you apart from anyone else. Saying that you sell them for half price, however, is sure to get people thinking. You want to make yourself look better than any of the competition.
